malfunctioning piece of garbage

I have never owned a piece of electronic equipment that works as poorly as this receiver. It frequently will not recognize when the ipod is attached, which is my main (but far from only) problem with it. In the middle of songs it will cease recognizing it, or if I try to forward to another song it will stop working also. Sometimes the display just shows garbled hieroglyphics, and I have to restart it several times before it works. This happens VERY frequently, to the point that now I often don't even listen to music just to avoid the aggravation. The controls are also very poor, and it is hard to tell what buttons do what (it could have been simplified, but as it is there are too many tiny, poorly marked buttons) - and I am not bad with electronics. In short, I had a friend tell me not to go with Sony because of problems he had with a car receiver, and I wish I would have listened. I have always had problems with devices I buy from them. I would strongly recommend looking at another type of receiver - I am assuming that you're interested in this one because of ipod/iphone interface, and it just works horribly, which is a sad thing to figure out after you paid over $100 to have it installed.
Great product from Sony...

Yes, The title had to say it. Sony has been known to make some really, really horrible stuff simply to fill the shelves of local electronic stores. I have had my fair share of those bad products as well.
But, this head unit is one of there better products. It is a solid, basic head unit with a lot of flexibility. This item was purchased for my girlfriend and installed in her car.
As always, Sonys wiring colors are consistent and accurate with industry standards. The wires are also labeled (printed on the wires themselves), which is very helpful. The front USB port is very helpful! You can run your flashdrive full of music or charge your cell phone.
The only problem is the sensitive volume button. I thought it wouldnt be an issue like all the other reviewers, but it is true. The button is far too easy to push while driving causing an irritating menu to get through simply to be able to change the volume. |
Weird design for CD use

This is the only CD player I've ever seen that requires the user to open the face plate to put in a CD. I would definitely not buy this unit again.
Great

Perfect item. Just wish there was a way to not have the ipod plug sticking out the front of the Receiver.
Great DECK!

I waited quite a while to review so I could actually use it. Well after months of use I will say this is a great deck. This player operates an ipod smoothly. the Ipod controls take some getting used to but not very hard to work, Ipod sounds crystal clear. I don't actually use CD's anymore but I decided to try it on some of my old ones if your going to buy this for a CD player its pretty good but not the best. I put a cd and and hit a couple of bumps along the road and the CD skipped. Other then that the only other complaint would be the way the deck is tilted if it is sunny outside you wont be able to view the display easily unless you cover it with your hand..But for $89.99 you cant beat it !!! I would recommend it for anyone wanting to use their Ipod in their car without having to buy extra accessories.

This is a great car stereo, I got it a couple of weeks ago and I love it, you can pick the color of the screen (green or blue),it works perfectly with my IPOD, it is detachable and if you forget to detach it a beep will let you know. I don't need to burn CDs anymore, I just need to add the songs I want into my Ipod and then plug it in and that's it.
I'd say get it!!! |

This radio far exceeded my expectations. I like to liste to AM channels and it picks them up with very little noise. I love the USB port as it enables me to use a thumbdrive or my iPhone.....has fantastic controls over midtones, bass, and treble. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

I hooked up everything nice and tight to make sure nothing goes wrong... but for some reason it only plays the radio... no CD's or Ipod... it shows that there is a CD and even names the Tracks off when I plug in my iPod... but no sound :/
Great Deal

I bought this product 3 months back and I am very impressed with the output and the deal I got. I got the receiver installed by a technician and everything is working perfectly. The USB detects the songs automatically and plays it at a very superior quality. The rest of the sources are the CD, AUX and the Tuner which works perfect too. I did not get the remote control dongle along with the kit so had no chance to test the remote for this receiver, but other than that a very good deal and I am pretty satisfied with the product.
Great gift for my hubby

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my husband. He says that it is a really good upgrade from his previous deck. I personally love the two color light options (blue and green). He really likes the usb port option and the deck over all. The only thing he doesn't like is that their is no separate button to adjust your bass and treble. The sound is much better then the older model Sony deck that he previously had. He gives it a thumbs up.
