View larger. | Story Left 4 Dead 2 is set at roughly the same time as the original – just after the outbreak that turned most of the population into various zombie mutants. Players assume the role of four new "Survivors," each with their own personality and new dialog. The game leads these "Survivors" through the southeastern region of the US - from Savannah, Georgia through the bayou country, and climaxing in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Gameplay Just as with the original Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 is a first-person shooter which pits players against hordes of zombie-like enemies. As you would expect in a scenario where you are regularly surrounded by masses of the undead, it is very good thing to have plenty of help, as well as weapons at your disposal, and Left 4 Dead 2 has players covered on both accounts. The game features several multiplayer options including 2-8 player online and offline support in several modes seen in the first game, including Campaign, Versus, and Survival, as well as the new Scavenge Mode. This new multiplayer option tasks players, in the role of survivors to find a limited number of fuel canisters hidden in a level in order to keep their individual generators going, while other players in the role of the infected try to stop them. In addition the game features very strong co-op play support, with 2-player support locally and 2-4 player support online. The game features a wealth of melee weapons and additional items handy for battling enemies up-close and personal. Along with melee weapons seen in the first game, players can look forward to wielding new weapons like axes, chainsaws, frying pans, etc. Firearms are also available, but seeing as zombie fighting usually requires a little elbow grease, melee weapons are the mainstay. In addition, players can carry other useful items, including a variety of throwing weapons and several different kinds of support items, like flashlights to startle enemies and light the way in dark environments and healing items like first aid kit and defibrillator kits. Customize with AI Director 2.0 Introducing the AI Director 2.0, Left 4 Dead 2's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played. Key Features - Quality Co-op Gameplay - Left 4 Dead 2 features quality next generation co-op action gaming from the makers of Half-life, Portal, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike.
- AI Director 2.0 - Advanced technology dubbed "The AI Director" drives Left 4 Dead’s unique gameplay – customizing enemy population, effects, and music, based upon the players’ performance. Left 4 Dead 2 features "AI Director 2.0," which expands the Director’s ability to customize level layout, world objects, weather, and lighting to reflect different times of day.
- New Melee Weapons – Put a whole slew of melee weapons including axes, chainsaws, frying pans and baseball bats to use which allow you to get up close with the zombies.
- Meet "The Survivors" - The game features four different survivors, a new storyline and new dialogue.
- More Game - On day one, Left 4 Dead 2 features more cooperative campaigns, more campaigns and maps for the versus game modes than the original Left 4 Dead did, plus support for Survival Mode right out of the box.

| This game gets repetitive quick. I rented it for 360 and sent it back the same day. |
Better than the first.

| The graphics no better than the first, because they used the exact same engine as the first game... The game had a few more levels than the first, and some new special infected.. It was much better than the first game, though, I really wish that the graphics were all that the Xbox 360 is capable of producing... |
Good Game, A Little On The Hard Side

I'm a huge fan of Valve games but never tried the original Left 4 Dead game. I downloaded the demo on XBOX live and liked it so I bought the game. The game is a lot fun and I like the fact that there are a lot of game modes so you're not just stuck playing story mode. The best feature of this game is the online co-op. It allows you to work towards beating the game but instead of computer AI, you're actually playing with other people.
I've played the game for a few hours now and the main thing that bothers me is that it seems that when you're playing co-op online, not that many people try to revive you (although having a full team is critical to winning). That obviously has nothing to do with the product itself, which is why I didn't let that affect the score.
The two reasons I knocked off one star are: 1. The game gets very tough in some levels. There were levels that I just could not beat (on online co-op, so it wasn't just me as a bad player). It got to the point where it feels like it's impossible. 2. The second reason is due to the fact that there is no scope on any of the guns except for the sniper rifle. If not correct, then please feel free to let me know otherwise and I'll update the review. |
Frustrations with a side of motion sickness

| I've always been a huge zombie fan in terms of movies so I decided to try out some zombie games. I'm not really a gamer but now that I have my own xbox I decided to try it out. First of all I could not figure out where the heck I was supposed to go in this game. The other characters (when playing alone) do give you little comments here and there when you're going the right way but it just took way too long to find my way around. I'm used to playing FPS games on my comp so using the xbox controller was quite a challenge. But all the movement made me sick and I had to stop playing for a while before taking it on again. I wish the game was a little more helpful in guiding your movements around. Maybe that's the fun of it for some people, but not for me. |

Just what one would expect...

| This game is just what one should expect if you have played the original Left 4 Dead-new characters, new weapons, new levels, and some new gameplay modes. It doesn't seem terribly original, but it is entertaining. If you haven't played the original Left 4 Dead, and are totally new to the series, there is no reason you cannot just jump in on this one, it is an improvement in every way (except for maybe missing out on some of the original characters phrases), and the stories aren't really connected other than occurring during the same zombie outbreak. The controls in this game are pretty standard for shooters on the 360 and are easy to pick up on. This game is lots of fun if you are a zombie fan, and it has tons of replayability with all of its different game modes and online matchmaking. There aren't a whole lot of levels for the story mode, but that is how the first one was, so I guess that's just how these games have to be for now. It is sad that you can only do 2 player split screen games, but at least they have split screen-so many games rely upon only having online multi-player anymore. The bottom line is, if you like zombies and have a 360, then you should buy this game! It is well worth the its current, relatively inexpensive price. |

| Great game! Valve shows us again why they are the best when it comes to continued support for their products. With the free "Passing" campaign and weekly mutations it keeps things fresh. Plus whenever i feel like just shooting zombies for 10-20 minutes this is the game I go to. |
Good step up from LFD 1

| Very enjoyable follow-up from LFD 1. Good weaponry choice. Chain Saw makes mincemeat out of the hordes and is probably best choice for secondary weapon. Highly recommend this game if you liked LFD 1. |
