Well, well… it looks like Microsoft isn’t the only company overhauling, upgrading, and generally “swankifying” its handheld devices. We just received a dispatch from iMP3.net detailing the new V8000HD line from Ainol and, while we doubt we’ll be seeing one of these guys in the States any time soon, they do manage to pack a lot in a little package. Available in three flavors, the V8000HDA(4.3-inch / 800 x 480), V8000HDB (4.3-inch / 480 x 272), and V8000HDG (5-inch / 800 x 480) are being billed as PVPs (Portable Video Players) — because, you know, there aren’t enough arbitrary product categories out there as it is. According to the company, the PVP concept centers around full support for the H.264 codec (up to 1280 x 720), HDMI output (in addition to your standard component and A/V outs), and hi-def audio support. Also included is a USB port for access to external storage. No word on prices or release date, but we’ll keep you posted.
Stunning NEC CRV43 43-Inch Curved Monitor Is Stunningly Expensive
Posted by: | Comments
Remember this 43-inch curved monitor from CES a couple years ago? Well, it’s finally about to be available in all of its 2880×900px glory. For $8,000. Damnnn!
This bad boy is basically 4 DLP monitors stiched together and LED backlit, offering a killer response time of 0.02 seconds. It’s got DVI-D and HDMI 1.3 inputs, but don’t bother hooking up something like your Xbox 360 to this thing—it wouldn’t know what the hell to do with the wacky 2880×990 resolution. But I can only imagine how incredible this thing would be when set up to properly run an FPS or driving game. Good god. Hardcore gamers looking to out-rig each other, the bar has been raised. It can be yours for $7,999 of your dad’s money next month.

Features of HDMI Specification 1.4 Revealed
Posted by: | Comments
It hasn’t been too long now since HDMI specification 1.3 came on the market and it’s already time for another specification to drop. I am glad to see that the HDMI Licensing company doesn’t sit on its laurels when it comes to adding new features to HDMI.
The full specification is due to be available for download no later than June 30, 2009. Until we can see the full specification, we do know a few of the features that HDMI 1.4 will offer. One of the most interesting is an HDMI Ethernet channel that allows HDMI connected devices to communicate at 100Mbps without needing another cable. An audio return channel is also featured in the spec along with support for 3D over HDMI.
Supported resolution gets a boost with support for up to 4096 x 2160 at 24hz and 3840 x 2160 at 24/25/30Hz. The new spec supports expanded color spaces as well like Adobe RGB. A new micro HDMI connector is also part of the spec aimed at making 1080p connections available for portable devices. The new connector is 50% smaller than the existing HDMI Mini
