Fuzzy

I had 3mp and 8mp cameras that I feel took better pictures. Most of my problems were with indoor pictures coming out fuzzy and/or pixelated. There is an easy setting and even with using this function I still had poor picture quality. I know this has a 12.1 MP, but to me it is of no use if the pictures come out the way they did. I did read the manual and even with following the suggestions for taking picutres I still had this problem. HOWEVER, As far as taking "posed" shots in very good lighting the pictures came out GREAT, but for taking those pictures of activities, especially indoors (yes I did use flash), I have many poor images of great memories. I am definitely not a "technical" type person, but with owning two other digital cameras I didn't have this type of a problem. It seems like an easy to use camera, So I guess that is why I am so disappointed that I had this problem.

THIS IS A GREAT CAMERA. THE ZOOM IS EXCELLENT AND THE SETTINGS ARE SO EASY. THIS IS THE BEST CAMERA I HAVE PURCHASED EVER. RECOMMEND THIS HIGHLY ESPECIALLY IF YOU WANT SIMPLE, GREAT PICTURES AND THE STABILIZATION IS EXCELLENT.

Last of the compact cameras with a viewfinder. Image stabilizaton, advanced electronics, 2 aa batteries, and many options. A really great camera. Only negative , there is no user manual-only a cd. This presents a problem when you are travelling and need to check something.

Love this camera and I keep it in my bag at all times. It takes great photos for every day snapshots when a dslr is not convenient to carry. The only complaint I have is the lack of a Sports mode. The Children and Pets mode is the closest I can find and it does an alright job with kids. However, although I've gotten a few good sports shots with it, it's still on the slow side and not fast enough to catch some of the best action shots.

I really like this camera, however, I find it difficult to open and close the battery compartment.
great little camera for the price

takes just the right pictures for the price. I use the camera for when I need a camera that I can afford to damage/loose (on water, etc). It takes great still pictures and acceptable moving ones if you set it up right
Few flaws, mostly excellent

take tons of vacation pix, and have two main attributes i require for my camera:
a) still need a visual viewfinder, i'm often outside, in bright light, in sunglasses, and have a very hard time framing shots with the screen
b) need batteries; often rafting or backcountry camping without electricity, and had to have a camera that i can replace batts in
used to have the olympus, but lost it, and tried this one, and overall very happy.
two flaws i've identified so far:
a) the dial on top (for settings) is EASILY moved when putting camera in and out of your pocket, so often i'd go to grab it, and it would have shifted to a different 'program' or usually 'movie', annoying as could be
b) was checking memory card status, and it's WAY too easy to hit 'format' which deletes all your pix! found this one out the hard way. there absolutely should be an 'are you sure' screen (like when deleting a file on the computer). i'm pretty tech savvy, so if i could do this inadvertently, it's probably too easy
but that being said, for the size / price / quality, and given my needs listed above, very happy.
if you need these issues too (viewfinder and batteries) this is probably the right low level digicam |
not so small, eats bateries

This is not a great camera. The use of AA batteries is a bad idea. This thing just consumes batteries at an alarming rate. This camera is not so tiny, either. Otherwise the camera works fine, nothing special. I cannot recommend this camera.

Bought the Canon powershot a1100 IS for my wife at christmas. I have to say I have an old Nikon camera with 4 megapixels that is faster at taking pictures. The Canon has better quality if everyone stays still. Since I have children that really is not practical. The video feature is OK, the image stabilizer sucks in my opinion (yes we have it set for kids and pets), and if I were to grade it I would give it a solid D. 66% of it I like, 44% I don't like. It hasn't failed us in every aspect but if I had it to do over again I would get a different product. Glad to see they have upgraded it since I purchased it. The newer version might be better.
and on the seventh day...

The camera worked great for 6 days. My daughter took some nice pictures, especially with macro shots. And on the seventh day (while on vacation, of course), the camera started crapping out. Although it was able to snap a picture, it could do no more than that.
It stopped zooming (the zoom button would not move). We could no longer view other pix that were on the disk -- only the last pic taken. The menu became inaccessible, so you could not change the settings.
Funny thing: The camera is classified as a "point and shoot." Well, that's exactly what it did. Nothing else. I opted to return it. We need more working features.
Be wary of this camera!
