Great Portable Console!

The PSP is the first portable console released by Sony; it was first released in Japan late 2004 then in America in March of 2005 and the first upgrade the 2000 was launched in 2007. The PSP 3000 came out in 2008 and is the third and latest version of the PSP. I think that by now you should know what to expect, after all it's the same PSP with a few changes. This one is even lighter and brighter than the original and the 2000, it has an improved LCD screen (I wouldn't worry too much about the scan lines). It now has a microphone (which I've never used as of now), a longer battery life it also feels great in my hands which is great. It comes in different colors; piano black, silver, purple and white (there are also limited edition ones as well and some with designs on them). There are also many packages to choose from, maybe you just want the core to replace your current PSP or you may want to buy the Ratchet and Clank package(this is the one I bought) or perhaps the Assassin's Creed one.
So is it worth buying a PSP 3000 right now? Yes. There are some goods games available like Final Fantasy Crisis Core, God of War and there are still good games coming out for the system. The games don't cost that much either they are priced reasonably, you can buy a brand new one for about 40$ and "Greatest Hits" games are under 20$. It does a lot of things for a portable console, including networking. You may want to consider buying a bigger memory stick card if you plan on playing many games and having many files on your PSP. Don't worry about the PSP Go, I know there are some concerns but it's a different console and Sony aren't planning to replace the PSP with it, it's entirely different and if you aren't comfortable with the fact that you don't have physical copies of the game (you buy games online) you should rather get this one or an older version of the PSP.

| I bought this for my girlfriend's brother, not knowing a newer version would be coming out within a year. He liked it, however I haven't seen it in a good 6 months. This review is outdated, I know. |

We purchased this package for our 9 year old son for Christmas. He took very good care of the PSP, but unfortunately the back door became unhinged (not unlikely, since the hinges are made of extremely thin & fragile metal). The games still played, but loading and unloading was a bit of a chore, so we decided to utilize Playstation's warranty and/or the 2 year warranty we purchased with the pack. we shipped the working unit off to Playstation. A week later, I was informed by their service department that they had received the unit, but would not repair it. They told me it had recieved water damage, was not working, and that we could pay $89 for a replacement unit. I explained that there was no way there could have been water damage, but regardless all I cared about was just repairing the game door. I was told that was impossible. Agitated and frustrated, I called back and asked for a supervisor, who informed me that they do not repair, they only replace, and that the "water damage" voided my warranty. She also informed me that there were no notes about the unit not working, and to her knowledge it worked just fine. They just wouldn't replace it unless we paid $89. I asked her to send the unit back, and mentioned we would never purchase from Sony Playstation again. Two weeks later we had still not recieved the unit. I called back to find out where it was, and was informed that it was scheduled to ship the following week. (3 weeks to return a unit they didn't have to do anything to???). We finally received the unit back, but to our surprise, the unit no longer works. Even once we finally get a game loaded, the unit cannot recognize it, and does not provide the option to play. I called back furious, and asked a supervisor if this was their way of making sure I now have to pay the $89 for a replacement. I was informed that they were not going to get into a hypothetical discussion with me, and my options were to replace the unit for $89 or keep the dead unit I have.
Several calls to Playstation headquarters (after hunting down the # online) have gone unreturned and unaddressed. We now have a 6 month old dead unit, even with the Playstation warranty & two year additional warranty (which does not kick in until Playtstation's expires). I am furious, and will never purchase from Sony Playstation again. I recommend you fully photograph your equipment (including turned on) prior to sending for repair, and expect to be scammed as well. Lesson learned (the hard way!) |

We have 2 PSPs at my house- an original and a 3000. Both continue to work great after many months of constant use. Favorite games are Ratchet and Clank, Echochrome, and Monster Hunter (Japanese version).
If you want to buy games or videos from PSN through your computer, and/or if you need to manage photos and music (PSP is good for both), the free new Media Go PC app from Sony works really well.
There is no cost, no serial number, no activation required to download and run Media Go. [...]
